The behavior of cardinal splines interpolating elements of (l_{2}^{k}) as their degree tends to infinity in (R^{1}) has been determined by I. J. Schoenberg in the 1970s. In this paper we consider the generalized problem in (R^{n}) by replacing cardinal splines by polyharmonic cardinal splines. C 1994 Academic Press, Inc.
