✦ Synopsis

The displacements at the free surface due to sudden meation of a normal stress discontinuity over a circular area which expands uniformly after ereation, inside a semi-infinite isotropic elastic medium are studied. Applying Cagniald's method as modified by De Hoop, the displacement components are derived in the integral forms. Their approximate evaluations are carried out in order to obtain the displacement components at the time of their first arrival.
