✦ Synopsis

The asymmetric synthesis of both enantiomers of the racemic NMDA antagonist eliprodil was accom lished in a novel application of Shsrpless' asymmetric diiydroxylation (AD) methodology. A drf erence in neuroprotective activity was noted for the enantiomers in an in viva *P model of rat focal cerebral ischemia.
