✦ Synopsis

Using mathematical symbols to describe reject pressure losses and permeate production from spiral-wound ultrafiltration modules, the optimum arrangement of such modules m a filtration network was sought. It was found that a saving in pumping and capital costs is possible when the correct arrangement is selected.

The four-inch diameter spiral-wolind RO membrane elements have been developed successfully. The membrane element (type-SRC-401) is 965 millimeter long. A demonstrating prototype, designated SRO-80-1000, has been designed and fabricated by using the type-SRC-401 spiral-wound membrane elements. This p

This paper presents design equations (x-dimensional) for spiralwound and hollow fiber RO-modules. Predictions based on these design equations deviate from experimental data less than 2.5% with respect to recovery rate and less than 6.5% with respect to salt passage.
