A queen of ancient Egypt is forced to choose between her only son and her lover who is the son’s wife. This is a story of three powerful women of ancient Egypt. Old Queen Sekma gains control of the kingdom through intrigue, maneuvering and murder, and ruthlessly rules from behind the scenes. Mitti, a girl taken from her family at ten years of age, becomes Sekma’s unwilling apprentice and is coerced into becoming Sekma’s protégé and to learn power politics. Sekma manipulates the lives of the people of Egypt and carries on a bizarre breeding program for the royalty, and forces Mitti to bear a child by a man of Sekma’s choosing. Later, Mitti becomes queen through marriage to an incompetent king. Nyserra, a young noble woman, is chosen to marry Mitti’s son, but Mitti and Nyserra fall in love. They both realize their love is forbidden, but their love is too strong to deny. Time passes; politics, intrigues, and manipulations occur; plots and treachery are always a danger. Sekma loses power to Mitti. A day comes when Nyserra and Mitti, who still love each other deeply, become political enemies. Mitti is faced with a terrible choice. In the end Mitti comes to understand why the old Queen Sekma was as ruthless as she was, and arrives at a kind of admiration for her.
