Abstract
The construction is described of a simple counter for measuring the conversion electron Mössbauer spectrum of the inside surface of a tube. The counter is used to investigate the effects of adding ferrous sulphate to the cooling water of condensers with brass tubes to inhibit corrosion. It is concluded that the treatment leads to the formation on the inside of the tube of a layer of FeOOH, the exact nature of which depends slightly on the local conditions.
