β¦ Synopsis
One-hundred-forty-three histopathological sections comprising 19 glomerulopathies have been scanned for 78 variables. These were then summarized in a 78 component vector "V" in which the presence of the variable is marked by a "1" while its absence by a "0." The unweighted pair-groups method using arithmetic averages (UPGMA) served as the clustering strategy. By utilizing only variables observed in all cases of a glomerulopathy, a classification matching that of the pathologist could be achieved. * Part of this work was done in partial fulfillment of requirements for an M. In this paper, we present a wavelet based approach which tries to automatically find the number of clusters present in a data set, along with their position and statistical properties. The only information supplied to the method is the data set to analyze and a confidence level parameter. Most of th
