✦ Synopsis

When an oxide-free tin surface is anodically polarized in deaerated 0.1 M sodium borate at a c.d. of about 6 #A/cm ~ the potential of the tin remains constant at first at --0-85 V vs. Ag/AgCI. Half the current is used for oxide formation and half for tin dissolution. This process continues even when the potential becomes more positive until a potential of +0.2 V vs. Ag/AgC1 is attained. The stannous oxide is then oxidized to stannic oxide until the oxygen-evolution potential is reached, when the oxidation ceases. The presence of stannic oxide leads to a characteristic "kink" in the cathodic reduction curve.

R6sum6--Lorsqu'une surface d'oxyde d'6tain noncombin6 est polaris6 par anode dans du borate de sodium 0,1 M degaz6ifi6 /tune c.d. d'environ 6/zA/cm ~, le potentiel de l'6tain reste d'abord constant b. --0,85 V coutre Ag/AgC1.
