This anatomical investigation in the rat was designed to illustrate the detailed organization of the tongue's muscles and their innervation in order to elucidate the actions of the muscles of the higher mammalian tongue and thereby clarify the protrusor subdivision of the hypoglossal-tongue complex.
The investigations by Wislocki ('28, '30) and by Wslocki and van der Westhuysen ( '40) of the placenta of Hyracoidea revealed the astonishing fact that these animals, which are classzed as the most primitive living ungulates, have a placenta hemochorialis. This caused Wislocki to consider the possib
