✦ Synopsis
In this letter a simple analytical method is described whereby the hyperfine parameters in Wossbauer iron spectroscopy may be determined directly from an observed spectrum in many cases of interest. After an initial assignment of the lines, a method is outlined in which the products of the eigenvalues of the excited state are equated to the appropriate coefficients in the polynomial obtained by expansion of the secular determinant for the excited state iron nucleus in a general field system.
