The American Academy of Ophthalmologists announced the following awards at its annual meeting October 23–26, 2004: Elliot M. Finkelstein, MD, of Chestnut Hill, MA, George S. Malouf Sr., MD, of Prince George's County, MD, and Hunter R. Stokes Sr., MD, of Florence, S.C. were named guests of honor; Stephen J. Ryan of Los Angeles, CA and Providence, RI, was presented with the Distinguished Service Award; Danièle Aron Rosa, MD, J. Donald Gass, MD, and Marshall M. Parks, MD, were presented with the Laureate Recognition Award; and George O. Waring, MD, FACS, FRCOphth, received the Lifetime Achievement Award and Bausch & Lomb Visionary Award
