โฆ Synopsis
Review and appraisal of the contextual landscapes of Ahmarian open-air sites support the conclusion that this tradition of the Levantine Upper Paleolithic does not define a spatiotemporal continuum. The sites are found within or immediately proximal to highland settings. The exploitation of these montane areas in northern and southern Sinai and in the central plateau of the Negev occurred for only a few millennia of the Ahmarian culture phase. These orographic settings introduce a vertical dimension to the discontinuous spatiotemporal pattern.
