Snmmary--This paper contains some experimental work which was conducted on the propagation of stress pulses in bars with sharp side notches. The distortion of the dominant part of the pulse after passing the notch area can be described by the affine transformation of the coordinates e and t. The coefficients of the affine transformation were called distortion coefficients. The distortion coefficients may serve to estimate the effect of sharp notches, made in the bar edges, on the distortion of the pulse as the latter travels through the notch-area.
