✦ Synopsis
In the search for auxillar 3 sources of ionization for thc advanced thermiomc con~e~te~ plasma, as required for terrestial applications, the use of external b applied microwave power is considered. The prcscnt work is part of the advanced model thcrmionic conxcrter development research currently pcrformed at the laboratory for Power and Environmental Studics at St, NY Buffalo. Micro-v~,~tve power in the frequency range 1 3 GHz is used to externalb pump a thermionic converter and the results are compared to the theoretical model proposed b 3 H. Larn [1] m describing the thermionic converter plasma. The electron temperature of the plasma is t\mnd to be raised considcrabl> hx effective imcrowave heating which results in the disappearance of the double sheath ordinarily erected in front of the emitter. The experimental data agree satisfactorily with theory in the lo~ current region Thermionics Energy conversion Microwave
