✦ Synopsis

Low-energy electron diffraction intensity measurements have revealed the existence of two chemically different adsorp tion states for acetylene adsorbed on the (111) crystal face of platinum. A chemical model for the two states is proposed _ based on a comparison with the diffraction beam intensities from ethylene, propylene and methylacetylene adsorbed on the same crystal face.
