✦ Synopsis

Ah&act-From steady-state and transient polarization data and corrosion rate data it is found that the active dissolution of chromium occurs by a primary transfer of univalent ions mainly at kink sites and a secondary oxidation of these ions to divalent ones mainly by solution components (such as hydrogen ions or water molecules). The dissolution reaction is pH independent at pH below about 2, but is stimulated by hydroxide ions at higher pH.

Active anodic dissolution of chromium in acidic sulphate solutions was investigated by using the rotating ring-disc electrode (n-de). Chromous ions dissolved from the chromium disc could be collected on the gold ring electrode by oxidation to chromic state. The empirical collection number was estima
