Sometimes these invaders are capable of growing under conditions hitherto regarded as inhibitory or even self-sterilizing. Some bacteria *y grow in relatively high concentrations of chloro-xylenol antiseptics, sometimes moulds, especially those of the genera Cladosporium or Penicillium may grow actively in highly acid solutions lethal for bacterial spores, or in the pmence of cresoi, chlorocresol, or phenol in concentrations usually regarded as antiseptic. These moulds seem able to penetrate into a container by way of the film of moisture between cap and vial,
