Abstract

The acidity of malondialdehyde as well as the stability of its 1 :1‐complexes with Ni^II^ and Cu^II^ have been determined (Table). In comparison with the enolates of aliphatic β‐dike‐tones the anion C~3~H~3~O~2~βˆ’ has not only a strikingly reduced basicity, but is also a grossly inferior ligand for metal cations.

## Abstract The acidity constants of the six thienyl‐ and the three phenyl‐pyridines, and the stability constants of the corresponding Cu^2+^ 1:1 complexes were determined in aqueous solution (__I__ = 0.1, NaCIO~4~; 25Β°). The basicity of the pyridyl group is increased by a shift of a thienyl or phe
