✦ Synopsis
AMract-In mixtures of sulphuric acid and water it is possible to hydrate cpionone to a tertiaq alcohol. Like rpionone this "cpionone hydrate*' consists of two geometrical isomers-& and ttonrwhich are interconverted easily. A mechanism of this reaction is proposed An analogous reaction of pionone with methanol is described;
the product is a methoxyether with the same geometrical isomerism as the hydrate.
