This contribution will review the eminent role of Prof. Kurt Grob in the development of capillary columns. Ratherthan taking stockof all his papers in this field, a survey will be given of the general methods dealing with column preparation developed by Grob. However, before doing so, let us cast our minds back to the introduction of glass capillary columns as an analytical tool into research and routine laboratories.
