✦ Synopsis
Thea%* , ("r tX 'Et, band systems ofjet-cooled CuAu and AU* have been spectroscopically observed by resonant twephoton ionization spectroscopy. The upper state vibrational constants (w: = 109.3 cm-', w:x: =0.90 cm-r for 63C~'97A~; w: = 82.9 cm-', o&r& = 1.01 cm-' for "'AUK) indicate shallow excited potential curves, and the long excited state lifetimes ( FZ 40 us for Au*, > 90 us for CuAu) imply a spin-forbidden decay process, in agreement with the assignment of the transition. Birge-Sponer extrapolations give ground state bond strengths of2.41+0.07 and 2.290? 0.0 15 eV for CuAu and Au*, respectively. A rotationally resolved scan of6'Cug7Au has established the bond lengths as r,(X '2+)=2.3303 kO.

Using potential energy curves of Cs2 and performing quantum mechanical simulations of the spectra we assi
Polarization labelling spectroscopy is applied to study excited states of K2 lying in the energy range 23800-25800 cm-' above the bottom of the ground state. The two observed states are identified as 3 'l&(4 'S+S 'P) and 3 '&/ (4 \*S+ 3 'D). Molecular constants are derived for both states from a Dun
