โฆ Synopsis
From the beginning of this century plant breeding and breeding research in the Netherlands passed through a significant phase of evolution . This both applies for private breeding firms and for research institutes such as SVP .
Present and future research will result in the genetical unravelling of a variety of processes and characteristics in agricultural crops concerning biochemical pathways, and physiological parameters of quality, food safety, resistance, growth and stress tolerance .
A variety of developments in plant breeding is described including the optimistic perspectives of cell and molecular techniques and some possible draw backs .
