✦ Synopsis

It seems that just yesterday I was asked to assume the editorship of Head & Neck Surgery in 1984. The decision to do so was easy, for it represented a challenge and an opportunity to do something in which I had an interest.

From the beginning, I set myself three goals: First, I wanted Head & Neck Surgery to survive as a peer-reviewed journal with significant educational content. Second, I would remain Editor for no more than 10 years. Third, I would try to affiliate the journal with both national head and neck societies and bring these two organizations together.
