✦ Synopsis

The effect of thorium impurities on superconductivity and antilerronlagnetism, which coexist hclow tile superconducting critical temperature "I'<. has been investigated in the hcavy electron compound LIRu.Si:. The substitution of up to 5 ate; Th for U was found to (1) enhance the low temperature normal state magnetic susccpiibility and clcctronic spccilic heal coefficient y. (2) broaden the superconducling and antiferromagnelic transitions. (3) suppress the specific heal iump associated with the superconductivity tit T< and antiferromagnctisnl ill the NOel temperature 1~. and ( 4) induce a Kondo-like minirnunl in tile electrical resistivity at low temperalures. The incre;.lsc in y and decrease m /~. inld the antiferromagnetic energy gap d with negative "chemical pressure" associated with the substilulion of Th for t corrchllcs with tile decrease ill y and increasc in 7' n and .~ upon application of an external pressure.
