✦ Synopsis

The adsorption isotherms of N, and Ar at 77 and 90 K on a pyrolytic graphite produced by Union Carbide (U.S.A.) were studied. All the isotherms belong to type II of the IUPAC classification and both at 77 and 90 K neither the N2 nor the Ar isotherms present a crossing point. The specific surface area is calculated and compared with that of the other graphites. Using the desorption isotherm of N2 at 77 K, porosity was studied, completing this analysis with mercury porosimetry.
