โœฆ Synopsis

The maceral density fractions separated from PSOC-106 and PSOC-852 bituminous coals were reacted with tetralin at 420ยฐC for 6 min. Both THF and pyridine solubility decrease smoothly with an increase in density or a decrease in H/C atomic ratio. In addition, a higher carbon aromaticity leads to a lower conversion. The average molecular size of the THF soluble products decreases as the density of the starting sample increases. lnertinite consumes more hydrogen to reach the same degree of conversion. Possible reasons for this result are discussed.

Computational modeling has been carried out to study the formation of nitric oxide during the combustion of a single spherical char particle. Combustion conditions are representative of pulverized coal in the temperature range 1250 to 1750 K. The model is a generalized mechanistic model with nitric
