✦ Synopsis

In clinical trials where the treatment groups correspond to increasing dosages of a substance and the outcome is the possibly right-censored time to a certain event, it is desirable to test for increases or decreases in survival times with increasing dose. Furthermore, it may be of interest to study several endpoints simultaneously. Two asymptotically distribution-free tests are considered: one to test the alternative hypothesis that the survival times are stochastically increasing with increasing dose and another to test the alternative that the survival times are stochastically ordered (either increasing or decreasing) with increasing dose. An important special case concerns the general problem of testing for ordered alternatives with incomplete multivariate (repeated measures) data.

## Abstract The exact generalization of GEHAN's (1965) two‐sample test for arbitrarily censored survival data has been overlooked by subsequent work on the multisample problem. We give this general covariance matrix and show how it may be used in test procedures. While this permutation test is less

We previously proposed a class of ordered weighted logrank tests for analyzing censored survival data under order restrictions. However the power of these tests is asymmetrical with respect to possible alternative configurations and could be inferior to the non-ordered logrank test in extreme cases.

A nonparametric test is presented to test for ordered alternatives of the treatment effecta when the data follow a two-way layout. The observations are subject to arbitrary right censorehip. The test is similar to the one developed by H s r r a r a ~s ~m a m and NORTON (1987) for uncensored observat
