Abstract

Use of the accepted theories of polymer crystallization to interpret crystal growth rate data for a polyethylene fraction from dilute xylene solution leads to the conclusion that crystallization cannot proceed in either in regime I or regime II, nor in an intermediate regime. This apparent paradox means that the classical theory of polymer crystallization does not give the right order of magnitude of the rate of initiation and of the rate of spreading of a secondary nucleus.
