✦ Synopsis


The paper presents theories to predict the direct tensile strength of concrete reinforced with short, discontinuous fibers uniformly dispersed and randomly oriented in the matrix. These theories are based on a law of mixtures approach and an effective fiber spacing concept which take into account the premature failure of the composite due to fiber-matrix interracial bond failure. The validity of these theories is confirmed by experimental data on circular, duoform and rectangular fibers.
