Con este lapidario susurro arranca Tenessee, novela en la que Luis Gusmán nos presenta a dos losers profesionales Walenski y Smith ex-levantadores de pesas, dobles de acción en películas de bajo presupuesto y embajadores de los ambientes más patibularios y casi post-apocalípticos de un Buenos Aires desconocido muy alejado de la imagen de postal turística y el color del folclore local, una ciudad de la furia plagada de gimnasios en ruinas y garitos ilegales. Un verdadero paisaje moral en ruinas en el que los dos rara avis deberán hacer frente a un embrollo digno de la serie noir. Sin embargo, Luis Gusmán consigue el más difícil todavía y progresivamente va pulverizando toda intriga para privilegiar el tema de la amistad, de la amistad verdadera, y cómo puede o no ésta prevalecer sobre las heridas del pasado no resueltas, humanizando a los dos luchadores e inscribiéndolos, sin duda, en la gran tradición trágico-cómica del tándem: Bouvard y Pécuchet, Vladimir y Estragón o Don Quijote y Sancho.
