Tender Mercies was my third novel. It's a hurt/comfort fic which is really one of my favorite story structures... wounded/abused hero or heroine who finds healing/help through someone else.

Fun fact: My husband won't read Tender Mercies because he says "The prologue is too sad". So you heard it from M first! The prologue is too sad. ;)

Actually I did cry like a big emo snowflake while writing the prologue. A lot of people skip prologues on general principle, but I only write them if they are actually important to the story itself. You'll miss a lot about Asher and his motivations without that prologue.

In Tender Mercies I wrote my first character who actually IS in the BDSM lifestyle, but instead of another dominant to play "games" with, she wants something real. She ends up being seduced online by this guy named Lucas who lives on a secret island where erotic slavery is legal. And she chooses to go there. Because she's a big moron. But hey, we all do stupid things sometimes. If I do anything right with this book, it's making you care about this woman after she does probably the stupidest thing she could possibly do.

We of course reprise what has by now become a "Kitty thing"... Rich Guy. Big House. :P

But it's a fantasy. Security, stability, not having to worry about any of your financial needs ever again... it's appealing to women who often feel like society just throws them to the wolves at every turn and blames them for everything that ever happens to them. "If you hadn't smiled at him that wouldn't have happened". "If you hadn't been rude to him that wouldn't have happened". And on and on with the blame game. So if women get off a little bit on security... well, color me shocked.

The island in Tender Mercies is called Eleu. Eleutheria is a greek term that means "free person" (Eleu-theros) So Eleu is a somewhat intentionally ironically named island. But it's another one of my books that asks the question: What is freedom?

In most of my books, the hero and the villain? Pretty much the same guy. In Tender Mercies there is an actual hero and villain who are two different people, which was new for me because normally I want you to hate and be attracted to the same guy all at one time.
