Abstract
Characteristics of the spatial and temporal variability of tropospheric and low stratospheric temperatures of Argentina during the period 1965β1982 are investigated.
Empirical orthogonal functions (EOFs) were used to obtain the main characteristics of the vertical profile of temperature in three climatic regions, and time series of the temporal coefficients are analysed as indicators of temporal variations. The results indicate that there was an almost homogeneous upward trend in summer of the tropospheric temperatures (downward for stratospheric temperatures) in tropical and midβlatitude regions.

Line profiles, especially of chromospheric and coronal lines, might be influenced appreciably by the joint effects of a temperature gradient and a radial expansion. Temperatures deduced from such profiles could lead to erroneous conclusions concerning the ion-temperature of the line-forming matter.
## Abstract Extreme (maximum and minimum) temperature records are analysed for search of spatioβtemporal variation patterns in regional climate change throughout Turkey based on 165 stations, as many stations as possible, and as far back as possible, in the period 1961β2008. The main purpose is to
