β¦ Synopsis
Assuming a reference state of pure end member solid and fluid phases at P andT, Greenwood (1967) has derived an equation for the T--N(H20)--N(C02) locus of reactions involving a water-carbon dioxide fluid phase as --1/T=A ~-(~1" LnN 1 @ v2*LnN2)*R/A H if the fluid mixing is ideal and zJ H is constant. The symbols are mole fraction (N), reaction coefficient (~), heat of reaction (z] H), and fluid components (1 and 2). Rearranging yields --1/T = A @ (LnN 1 ~-~2/ vl*LnN2)*R/AH/ul and with LnK=LnN1 @ u2/vl*LnN2, LnK= (--ul*d H
/R)* 1/T-~ (--~ IA H/RA).
A plot of Ln K versus 1/T will be a straight line with slope --ul*AH/R and intercept= A %lope. A foolscap size template has been constructed that permits hydrothermal data to be plotted directly as LnK versus lIT. The value of plotting experimental data directly as LnK versus lIT
