โฆ Synopsis
The quasi-steady surface renewal model developed by Ruckenstein and the conventional surface renewal and penetration type model deriving from Danckwert's work are considered on the basis of temperature profile data for turbulent flow in smooth tubes. The validity of the quasi-steady surface renewal model is questioned due to (1) its failure to predict temperature profiles for values of the Prandtl number greater than 5.7, and (2) its failure to correlate experimental data for the mean Nusselt number for values of the Prandtl number between O-5 and 5.0. The basic surface renewal and penetration model appears to become inadequate for large values of the Prandtl number due to the significance of the unreplenished layer of fluid at the surface.
