β¦ Synopsis
In countercurrent heat exchange equipment where heat is being generated in a process stream being cooled, maxima can exist in the temperature profiles. These maxima may far exceed temperatures which would have been reached without cooling and are not necessarily accompanied by high outlet temperature. The conditions favouring this phenomenon are discussed and its importance cited. The special case of uniform heat generation in a process stream is analysed in detail. Two examples are presented.

The time-dependent temperature distribution within a droplet with internal heat generation and surface vaporization has been studied using a finite-difference numerical method. The heat transfer equations were nondimensionalized for computer calculations, and solutions were obtained for cases when t
The criterion, for the existence of a steady-state temperature distribution in a plane slab or system with internal heat generation is critically examined. The rate of heat generation from the non-uniformly populated heat sources in the slab is assumed to be linearly dependent on the temperature dijj
