โœฆ Synopsis

The temperature distribution in bonded end caps of solid cylindrical reactor fuel elements at the unsteady state is determined analytically. Solution of the temperature distributions is expressed by products of Bessel functions and exponential functions with coupling relations between the fuel material and the end closures of the fuel element. A numerical example for UO2 dispersion fuel element with zircaloy end caps is given. The main results calculated for transient behavior of temperature distributions in the end caps are as follows: a) For given end-cap length and material, the temperature distribution in the end caps tends to become uniform with time or Fourier number. b) For a given mean heat transfer coefficient, the temperature distribution in the end caps depends chiefly on Fourier n umber. c) The temperature distribution for the end caps of various diameters is t]~e same, if the time of heat conduction is proportional to the square of the diameter.
