✦ Synopsis
The temperature dependence of the Raman spectra of was employed to follow structural phase NaNO 3
-KNO 3 transitions of mixed crystals with di †erent compositions. Solid solutions in the terminal phase behaved like NaNO 3 I, solid solutions in the terminal phase behaved like I and solid solutions in the intermediate NaNO 3 KNO 3 KNO 3 phase appeared to be a mixture of I and I on the scale of a few tens to hundreds of nanometers. NaNO 3 KNO 3 The three di †erent behaviours of the solid solutions below the solidus suggest that might well be NaNO 3 -KNO 3 regarded as a system with limited solid solutions instead of a continuous series of solid solutions. The limited solid solution model seems to be more consistent with the phase diagrams obtained by di †erential scanning calorimetry.
