โœฆ Synopsis

Raman spectra of di-n-butylamine show bands whose temperature-dependent intensities clearly suggest the occurrence of different conformers in simultaneous equilibria. I n particular, the Raman spectrum of the solid phase is compared with that of n-nooane in order to identify the more stable conformation. lo additioo, inteosity ratios vs temperature for pairs of Raman bands in the CH stretching region exhibit a smooth variation between the liquid and solid. ' Q s/47. Temperature variation was carried out with a continuous flow cryostat (Oxford Instruments, Model CF 100) operating with liquid nitrogen. Samples were contained in 0.5 cm3 cylindrical cells and temperatures were recorded on a temperature controller.

Infrared spectra were recorded on a Perkin-Elmer spectrometer (Model 683) using potassium bromide cells at room temperature.

We propose the model of liquid water as an ideal mixture of small water associates in dynamical equilibrium state for description of the temperature dependence of the valence band shape in the Raman spectrum. The Placzek's theory of vibrational Raman scattering is used for the spectrum simulation. T

Widths and shapes of v3(Al) infrared and Raman bands of thiophene at a34 cm-1 have been studied in the liquid and plastic phases. Since the depolarisation ratio of the band is very small at room temperature, the results obtained by the two techniques applied allow accurate determination of vibration
