✦ Synopsis
Thermal variations of structural parameters of (\mathrm{Li}{t{-x}} \mathrm{H}{x} \mathrm{IO}{3}) are reported between 10 and (380 \mathrm{~K}), and are compared to isotypic (\alpha) - (\mathrm{LiO}{3}) in the same temperature range. Beside the presence of a weakly bound, ratudomly distribuled proton in gencral position of (P^{2} \mathbf{6}{3}), differences appear concerning the thermal expansion coefficient along the polar axis and a significant shift of the Li position is observed from (210 \mathrm{~K}) to the decomposition temperature ((\approx 400 \mathrm{~K})). This predicts differences in the (\mathrm{Li}{1-x} \mathrm{H}{x} \mathrm{IO}{3}) pyroclectric and piezoelectric effects when compared to the (\alpha) - (\mathrm{LilO}{3}) crystal widely used for technological applications. 1993 Academic Press, Inc.
