The collisional deactivation of excited iodine atoms I( 5ps\*P,,2) by I2 and O2 has been studied as a function of temperature from 295 to 600 K. The decay of the excited iodine atom concentration following dye laser pbotolysis of molecular I2 was detected by time-resolved fluorescence at 1.3 15 pm.
