β¦ Synopsis
We investigate the temperature dependence of the conductance of an array of metallic small particles. It has been believed that it is of activation type with an activation energy of order of e2/47reea, a being the radius of a particle, if the sample is resistive enough, except near the Kosterlizt-Thouless-Berezinskii transition temperatue.
In most of the experiments, however, the activation energy is much smaller than that. In this paper we show that the activation energy is much smaller and is of order of the electronic level spacing in a particle.
