A critical assessment has been performed by compiling experimental data concerning the temperature dependence of stage If fatigue crack growth. For aluminium alloys, high strength steels, austenitic stainless steels and superalloys, the power coefficient, M, for the Paris reIationship is temperature dependent, and all ln(du/d~) vs ht(AK) curves cross at one point, designated as the pivot point (PP), which is a material-dependent parameter. The assumption is made that PP corresponds to a transition point for the fatigue crack growth mechanism.
