By the application of an external electric field to a polar liquid the molecules are slightly nlignecl. The dipole-dipole interaction between the nuclear spins is then not averaged out and the NhlR spectrum is modified. Results are presented for nitrobenoene and 2.4-dimethylnitrot,enzene.

The field dependence of the 'H and 13C coalescence temperatnres in N,N-dimethyltrichloroacetamide has been used to determine the most reliable activation parameters for internal rotation of the amide moiety. The results were found to be in excellent agreement with those obtained earlier by the doubl
Electric-field-induced splittings of 'H and 14N NMR lmes of nitrobenzene in solutions with benzene and acetonitrie were measured to study the solvent dependence of 14N quadrupole coupling The solvent effect is negligible. The "Ne NMR spectrum of Z'Ne-enriched neon gas dissolved in the anisotropic phase of the thermotropic liquid crystal ZLII 167 was recorded at various temperatures. The curve obtained by plotting the absolute value of the quadrupole coupling constant, 1x1, as a function of temperature is found to pos
Dipolar splittings with a quadratic dependence on static magnetic field strength are reported for selected pairs of nuclei in several porphyrins. These splittings are detectable as a result of a slight molecular alignment caused by the interaction of the static magnetic field with the anisotropic ma
