β¦ Synopsis
Crystal defects such as grain boundaries, dislocations and stacking faults have great influence on magnetic flux pinning and hence JΔ©n Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-0 system. In this work TEM has been used for the characterization of microstructure of single-and poly-ciystals in Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-0 system. Poly-crystalline sample with normal composition of Bi 18Pb04Sr2Ca22Cu 3010 was prepared by solid reaction route: mixing oxides powders of Bi 203, PbO, SrCO3, CaCO3 and CuO through ball milling, calcining mixed powders at 800' C, pressing it into a pellet and sintering in air at 845' C for 240 h with three intermediate gridings. Superconducting transition temperature (Tc) is 103K, characterized by the d.c. four probe method. Pb-free single crystal was prepared through an improved single crystal growth in the Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-0 system using a sealed cavity technique.
