✦ Synopsis
TheYear Book of General Surgery gives an excellent survey and prCcis of the trends of surgical experience from all over the world. As one would expect, there is ample coverage of transplantation of organs and the use of artificial organs.
Vascular surgery, with its ever-extending field, is dealt with very adequately. The value of arteriograms is stressed by many writers.
One of the many ways of increasing the blood-supply to the heart is by a double internal mammary artery implant. This procedure is well presented and illustrated. It is interesting to note that the mortality of single implants is 2.1 per cent, while the mortality of double implants is just over 8 per cent.
The problem of peptic ulceration still seems to worry the surgical world and there is no consensus of opinion as to the best form of treatment.
This 1968 edition is of real interest to surgeons.
