Difficulties may arise from blood-oozing after closure of the soft parts and removal of the tourniquet. If this trouble he surmounted, a new membrane of capsule type forms about the bone-ends, and it is stated that the new joint is less susceptible t o blood-bornc infections than a normal articulation.
