✦ Synopsis

The object of this study was to provide for document examiners an account of how handwriting is taught in school. Four schools were visited and the writing systems employed and examples of writing by the children were noted. The schools were from an inner-city area in England with a mixed ethnic roll, including children of immigrants. It was found that a variety of styies was being taught and that within a style, children readily developed personal characteristics.
