This volume is part of a long-standing project of the Commission on
the Status of Women of the Modern Language Association to promote discussion
on women's studies and to identify and advance on U.S . campuses, courses
and programs with a focus on women, particularly courses that relate to
language and literature. The earlier volumes in this series dealt with
curricular changes and innovations in English and American Studies. The
present volume is the result of the first concentrated effort to find out
what has been happening in the foreign languages .
