Introduction

Keratella cochlearis (GossE), Keratella quadrata (MULLER), Keratella procurva (THORPE), Keratella tropica (APSTEIN) and Keratella edmondsoni (AHLSTROM) new. comb . are the species of Keratella recorded so far from India . EDMONDSON & HUTCHINSON (1934) reported K. tropica and K. procurva as f. tropica and f. valga respectively of K. valga (EHRENBERG) . AHLSTROM (1943) described K. quadrata var. edmondsoni collected from Madras which is described here as K. edmondsoni new. comb . Here an attempt is made to study the taxonomic characters of the Indian species of Keratella on the basis of the study of the collections made by the author as well as on the basis of the descriptions given by the earlier workers .
