On account of its relation to many important industries in ,:the United States, especially its relation to chemical manufracturing, its use for light and heat, its use in gas engines, the :subject ,of tax=free alcohol becomes of great importance, and for this reason has been roach discussed and much has been written .about it lately. It is believed that a short review of .the alcohol industry might be of interest to the readers of this .Journal.
After about eigh.teen years of attempted legislation in this ,direction ~here has been passed by the House of Representa-.fives and the Senate.and signed by the President a bill which becomes operative in i9o 7 and which removes the internal revenue tax on grain ~al~ohol.
On aecotmt of its importance, the text of the new law is :herewith given in full, as follows:
TH,E "FRE.E ALCOHOL '~ LAW.
Below is presented the text of the new law providing for taxfree denatured ~alcohol for use in the arts and industries, but not in the manufacture of he,verages or liquid medicines: AN ACT For the withdrawal from bond, tax free, of domestic alcohol when rendered unfit for beverage or liquid medicinal uses by mixture with suitable denaturing materials.
